3-Step Certification Process

The use of video in the legal environment is growing fast.  Freelance depositions, courtroom video, video depositions...  Opportunities for legal video experts are unlimited and only NCRA's CLVS Program can prepare and certify you for these opportunities.

Step 1: Attend Videotape in the Legal Environment Seminar

This two-day seminar is held twice a year in March and September at various locations across the country. The Seminar will set you on your way to videotaping depositions and courtroom proceedings with confidence and skill and in accordance with accepted Rules of Civil Procedure.  With the demand for legal video services growing nationwide, and as recognition of the CLVS designation increases, you won't want to miss this program!

If you are already experienced in both videography and civil due process, you're required to attend only the second day for certification.  However, plan to attend both days to get a thorough overview of legal video.

On Seminar Day 1 you'll learn about:

  • Uses of videotape in the legal system
  • Legal and technical vocabulary
  • The role of the court reporter in a videotape deposition
  • Future technologies
  • Equipment acquisition

On Seminar Day 2 you'll learn about:

  • Rules governing the use of videotape in a legal environment
  • Techniques for videotaping deposition
  • Playback procedures
  • Record keeping and storage procedures
  • Ethics and professional conduct
  • And you'll experience a fascinating deposition simulation

This program is led by some of the best and brightest in the legal video profession, who also comprise the CLVS Council:

Annual Legal Video Forum

In 2008, the Forum's Track C/Software Training for current CLVSs will NOT be offered in September as usual; instead, it will be offered on Sunday, July 27, in Anaheim, CA, at  NCRA's Annual Convention.  By coming to Convention the day before, you will benefit from the following:

  • Networking with other CLVSs and court reporters
  • Bigger Technical Expo Hall

The Forum in New Orleans on Sunday, September 7, 2008, will still offer Track A/Hands-On Workshop and Track B/New Video Techniques with topics such as Marketing, Creating a Video Settlement Brochure, etc.
